The Pella Christian baseball team scored 28 combined runs Saturday to go 2-0 and win the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont tournament, while the Eagles softball squad went 0-2 at the Oskaloosa Tournament. 

The Pella Christian baseball team posted their two highest scoring outputs on the season Saturday, improving their record to 9-3 with a 13-4 win over the host Rockets and a 15-5 win over North Mahaska. Caleb Van Arendonk and Corbin Westerkamp had big days at the plate to lead the Eagles to win the tournament title and the team’s eighth win in their last nine games. Van Arendonk went 5-for-9 on the day with eight RBIs, a double and his first home run of the season, while Westerkamp went 5-for-7 with a double, seven runs scored, and two RBIs. Grant Kelderman recorded the win on the mound against the Rockets and added a 2-for-3 game with a double and three RBIs against the Warhawks. Johnson Morgan was the winning pitcher against North Mahaska and helped his cause with a 2-for-3 game at the plate.

The Pella Christian softball team fell to Cardinal 3-0 in Saturday’s opener at the Oskaloosa tournament, before dropping their second game this week to Class 3A #9 ranked Albia 9-6. Amaia Agre and Claire Westerkamp recorded the Eagles lone two hits against Cardinal, with Westerkamp hitting her second triple of the season. Emma Eekhoff took the loss in the circle against Cardinal, recording 11 strikeouts in six innings of work while giving up three unearned runs on a hit and a walk. Against the Lady Dees, Eekhoff went 3-for-3 at the plate with five RBIs, a double, and her second home run of the season. Agre added a 2-for-3 showing with two runs scored against Albia, while Maddy Van Zee suffered the loss. Van Zee allowed nine runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks in four innings pitched. With the losses, the Eagles dropped to 4-8 overall on the summer.

The Pella Christian baseball and softball teams continue their busy starts to the season Monday night with home Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheaders against Oskaloosa at 5:30 p.m.
