While they do return quality experience to the squad this season, the Pella Christian girls track and field team will have a lot of youth.

The Eagles, who have just three seniors on the squad this year, return two State Qualifiers from last spring in seniors Cara Veenstra and Anna De Boef. Freshmen make up most of the Pella Christian roster, with 10 of the 18 girls out for track and field just entering high school. While there is a lot of youth on the team, Eagles head coach Keith Anderson believes his squad could shock some people this year.

“I’m excited to see what those girls can do. I know they’ve been working. I don’t know exactly where they’re all going to fit in and what they’re going to contribute. But looking at what they did in junior high, and I know it’s a big leap from junior high to the varsity level and the Little Hawkeye Conference level, but I I think we’ve got some good pieces together that we’re going to be able to maybe surprise some people and hopefully get a few more events up to State this year.”

The Pella Christian girls compete for the first time this spring in the Little Hawkeye Conference Indoor Meet at the Bear Athletic Center in Grinnell tomorrow at 4 p.m.
