Update 6:48 p.m.: All lanes are now open, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement.
Update 6:42 p.m.: Two of the four northbound lanes of I-65 have been reopened, according to ALDOT. The right shoulder of the interstate is also open.
Original story: A multi-vehicle, fiery crash involving an 18-wheeler hauling watermelons left five people injured, and traffic at a standstill for hours on Thursday.
The wreck, which happened before 12:30 p.m. Thursday, included an overturned 18-wheeler that was fully in flames.
The northbound lanes of I-65 near Highway 119 were shut down immediately following the wreck.
According to Pelham police, the 18-wheeler blew a tire and then crashed into the median barrier. A secondary crash happened when two other motorists tried to avoid the truck.
Five people suffered minor injuries. One person was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Alabama State Troopers are working the crash, with traffic control assistances from Pelham and Hoover police.
