United Way of Payne County sent 783 volunteers to complete more than 100 community service projects across Payne County during its Day of Caring on Thursday, September 14th. The annual event saw businesses, groups and individuals register to participate in what has become one of United Way’s biggest community events.

(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 40-year-old man, who is serving a five-year prison term in Texas for violating a protective order there, has been given two concurrent two-year prison terms for illegally obtaining by theft a total of $20,500 from personal and business checks from an elderly relative in rural Stillwater and depositing the funds into his personal bank account in a case investigated by Payne County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Secrest.

A 20-year-old man is dead following a deadly motorcycle crash near Glencoe in Payne County. Troopers say the man drove the motorcycle off the road for an unknown reason before striking a tree. The man was transported to a Tulsa-area hospital where he later died.

The following arrests were made from Sept. 11 to Sept. 17. All are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

(Stillwater, Okla.) — On the day after a Payne County jury was selected for his first-degree manslaughter trial last week, a pick-up truck driver pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance and possessing marijuana during a fatal head-on collision on Highway 177 near McMurtry Road north of Stillwater.

Two fatality collisions occurred over the weekend in Noble and Payne counties. On Friday, Sept. 22 at approximately 7:20 p.m. at US-177 and County Road Harvest approximately three miles south and three miles west of Morrison in Noble County. Authorities in Payne County are searching for an unidentified driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run on a local highway. The incident occurred on U.S. 177, just north of Stillwater, early Wednesday evening. The victim, 37-year-old Ashley Taylor, was struck from behind while riding her electric bike.
