Sutherland Awards first Economic Development Grant
Sutherland, Nebraska – The Village of Sutherland has awarded its first economic development grant under the new Property Improvement Program. In May of 2022, the very fiscally conservative voters of Sutherland recognized the need to collectively invest in the growth and sustainability of their community. They voted to place a tax upon themselves of 1 ½ percent. That process included the creation of the Sutherland Economic Development Program and the Citizens Advisory Review Committee to oversee the distribution of the half-percent tax that was earmarked for economic development.

Cross-Country Team Faces Struggles at Ogallala Invitational
Cozad High School's cross-country runners attended the Ogallala invite on Sept. 21. The boys' team put their all into the challenging course. Lorenzo Levario led the Haymaker pack, completing the race with a time of 18:43.2. While he narrowly missed setting a new personal record, his dedication was clear. Shank Sall followed closely, finishing at 18:46.67. Joel Alvarado achieved a new personal best, crossing the finish line in 19:43.43, showcasing his ongoing progress. Gavin Guerra also contributed with a time of 19:57.47, and Elias Morris finished in 22:08.43.
Broncos Struggle at Wallace
Wauneta-Palisade Football team would travel to Wallace for a Thursday night matchup of High School Football. A night where the Broncos felt like they had early control after ending the first quarter tied at zero. Wauneta-Palisade would then have the ball at the Wildcat's 3-yard line trying to score first before the Broncos would fumble the football and Wallace would recover. A false start penalty on Wallace would then back the Wildcats up next to their own goal line before Masen Messersmith would run 79 yds and score. After that score by Wallace, things just snowballed for Wauneta-Palisade as injuries started to add up for the Broncos. Wallace wins in shutout fashion 53-0.
