The Only Motocross Track in RI: Open to the public
If you want to ride a two-wheeled dirt bike or four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle (ATV) legally, there is only one place in the state open to the public: ButtonwoodsMX in Richmond. We previously reported (“Picking on Poor People: Outlawing minibikes and ATVs” by Michael Bilow, Apr 6, 2021) about police campaigns in urban areas to crack down on such unregistered vehicles, and the state told us there was nowhere that allowed their use. Around the same time, Jordan Carlson (who also owns TetraHydro Club in Wakefield) opened this motocross (“MX”) track, which he jokingly described as “the biggest track in Rhode Island,” now in its third year of operation.

Hartley wins George Nasuti Novans Pride 5K; 9th annual race draws 195 participants
WOONSOCKET – Ryan Martley kept the youth movement alive and well at Monday morning’s George Nasuti Novans Pride 5K Run/Walk. A senior middle distance runner on the Burrillville High boys’ outdoor track and field team, Martley was the winner of the 9th annual 3.1-mile run, as he covered the hilly course in a time of 19:14.2 that topped the runner-up finisher, North Smithfield’s Jamie Paolino, by 15.6 seconds.
Burrillville’s Allen to be inducted into National College Wrestling Hall of Fame
BURRILLVILLE – Burrillville native Brian Allen has walked in more than a few Halls of Fame over the years. He has been inducted into the Burrillville Sports Hall of Fame, the Rhode Island College Athletic Hall of Fame, and the New England Conference College Wrestling Association Hall of Fame. This July, the longtime Johnson and Wales University assistant wrestling coach will be inducted into the National College Wrestling Hall of Fame.

JLL rallies for May family
The Johnston community is mourning the loss Thomas “TJ” May, who was one of the victim’s in last week’s shooting in which his daughter was also injured. May was a beloved family man and community leader, and was a coach in Johnston Little League. May had been a member of JLL for four seasons and was the coach of the Major League Braves. He was also slated to be the coach of the 10-year-old All-Stars this coming summer. May also coached his son in the league.
Parenteau, Wolf, Lally win girls' titles at RIPCOA state track and field meet
PROVIDENCE – Smithfield’s Alyssa Parenteau, who is an 8th-grade student at De La Salle Middle School, handily captured the girls’ 1,500-meter state title at Sunday’s RIPCOA Middle School Track & Field Championships at Mount Pleasant’s Conley Stadium, as her winning time of 5:10:53 topped the runner-up finisher by 8.87 seconds.
