An extension of Fort Hamer Road is now open in Parrish. The new stretch starts at U.S. 301 and goes north of Moccasin Wallow Road.

Local developer Neal Land and Neighborhoods designed and built the 3.65 mile road in a private-public partnership with Manatee County.

The road will one day connect to a new hospital, shopping and schools for the North River Ranch master-planned community.

“The extension of Fort Hamer Road is a vital integration to the road network of our community, and it helps stimulate economic development and connectivity in our region that current and future residents will benefit from,” said developer president John A. Neal during a speech dedicating the new road.

The new road could also help with traffic in a growing area that needs more north and south roadways as an alternate to Intterstate 75 or U.S. 301. Traffic delays at the Hillsborough/Manatee line are also growing more common on those roads.

Eventually, plans call for the road to be extended all the way to Buckeye Road and the Hillsborough County line.
