Iowa City — A Juneteenth Concert & Celebration event is coming to downtown Iowa City on June 14th. Juneteenth is a federal holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in America. A quarter of a million slaves were freed on June 19th, 1865 after union soldiers announced the Emancipation Proclamation in Galveston, Texas. That declaration was signed into effect two years prior.
Johnson County unveils new ambulance vehicle funded by $33k grant at Firehouse Subs
The Johnson County Ambulance Service will show off their new utility vehicle at Firehouse Subs' Public Safety Foundation grant award ceremony on May 25. The $33,444 grant was used to purchase the vehicle, which the county says will serve as an essential resource to enhance the ambulance's operational capabilities, allowing for quicker, more efficient response times.
