HS Baseball: Wood-Ridge Defeats Park Ridge at Home

WOOD-RIDGE, NJ – A four-run first inning propelled Wood-Ridge to a 9-7 win over Park Ridge in an NJIC non-divisional game on Thursday.  The Blue Devils improved to 5-5 with the win.

Down 1-0 after the top of the first, Salvatore Catanzaro started the rally in the bottom of the first with a lead-off double, moving to third base on a ground out and scoring on a steal of home.  Jake Wall walked, stole second and third and scored on a sac fly by Jacob Metcalfe for a 2-1 lead. Lucas Mendoza was hit by a pitch, moved to second on Michael Marchitelli’s single and scored on Jack Caprio’s single.  Marchitelli later came around to score for a 4-1 lead.

Catanzaro singled in the second and came around to score to extend the lead to 5-1. Following a Park Ridge run in the third, the Blue Devils scored three more to take an 8-2 lead. Marchitelli walked leading off and Chance Iacovino drew his second walk of the day with one out. Nicholas Scolera’s single scored Marchitelli. Catanzaro singled in Iacovino for a 7-2 lead and Jared Montoya squeezed home a run for an 8-2 lead.

Park Ridge scored four runs in the fifth, driving Catanzaro from the mound. Jake Wall and Jack Caprio were able to hold them to one more run over the final innings for the win.

Catanzaro went 4-for4 for the Blue Devils, who pounded out 12 hits and walked five times.
