Colorado 4X4 Rescue & Recovery recovers truck from Mount Lincoln
Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery received a call on Sunday, Aug. 27, from the owner of a GMC Canyon requesting assistance with a vehicle near Alma. The driver had gotten stuck on his way up the 14,293-foot peak of Mount Lincoln, the highest point in Park County and the eighth-highest summit in the Rocky Mountains.

Things are looking more stout along Highway 285 in Bailey where heavy-duty barriers now line the middle of the Colorado highway as it leads down Crow Hill and bends about 100 degrees in the middle of Bailey. Park County Historical Society enjoys mining trip
The Park County Historical Society took a field trip on Aug. 26 that was a fun-filled day full of exploration into the county’s mining history. The group gathered at the County Courthouse in Fairplay and headed for the Snowstorm Gravel Co. for the planned trip to the Snowstorm Dredge. Unfortunately, the group was not able to access the dredge as planned. Keith Pershing, an attendee, had grown up in Park City, as his father had purchased the town in the 1950s. Pershing knows the surrounding area well. Pershing knocked on a homeowner’s door and was granted permission for the group to explore the area. The group was led to an extensive water flume that dates back to July 1888, with the system still in place adjacent to the creek. The 150-year-old flume was in relatively good condition.

New wildland fire program begins in Park County
The Hartsel Fire Protection District has begun a wildland fire program that will dispatch firefighting units throughout the United States. Tapped to lead this new program is Firefighter Aaron Mandel, who has been hired by Hartsel Fire as the Wildland Fire Coordinator. His charge is to build a comprehensive program based in Hartsel that will send firefighting crews throughout the entire U.S. to fight wildland fires.
PC Chamber honors Deputy Jeff DeBerry
The Platte Canyon Chamber of Commerce met on Sept. 12. Mark Linne’, vice-president of the organization, led the meeting. Platte Canyon Fire Protection District Chief Ben Mulligan gave a special presentation to Park County Deputy Jeff DeBerry, with many firefighters and Park County Deputies in the room to lend their support to DeBerry.
