PARK CITY, Utah — The girls and boys varsity lacrosse teams from the Park City High School (PCHS) Miners both won Utah Sate Championship titles last week.

On Thursday, the girls beat predictably prolifically perenial rivals Olympus High, which is located in Holiday, with a score of 12-8. The next night the boys beat their Olympus counterparts 11-6 to take both W’s.

Plenty of Parkites made the drive to support their Miners an hour away in the stadium at the REAL Salt Lake (RSL)’s Academy campus in Herriman where both games were played.

The girls were coached by head coach Mikki Clayton, with assists from assistant coaches Veta Meyer, Emilie Arrix, K. Keblish, and Sarah Culver.

The girl’s Miners lacrosse team ended their winning spring season 7 and 0 at home this year after beating Wasatch High in Heber 15-4 on Tuesday where Morgan Heavrin was named the Player of the Game.

Not to be outdone, then one day later, on Friday the boys won their state championship also against Olympus 11-6.

On Wednesday they had beaten Brighton 10-8 in the high school lacrosse playoffs.

The boys Miners were guided to victory by head coach Michael Persky, and assistant coaches Mike Chao, Kyle Cord, Cameron Hyde, with statistician E. Manilla.

Some people may have been chasing a bit of respectful redemption from last year’s girls Utah state lacrosse finals against the same opponents.

PCHS Athletic Director Jaime Sheetz told TownLift after the girls’ game and before the boys’, “A big congratulations is in order for this Team. These Miners girls players, and their coaches, should be proud of the way they’ve conducted themselves in this program, they’ve truly made Park City proud.”
