Police Log: PCPD to start citizen’s academy program, SCSD seizes 127.9 grams of marijuana in a traffic stop

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Police Department is again offering the Citizens Academy program to the public that would grant insight and understanding into the day-to-day experiences of a peace officer. The experience is conducted over an 11-week course. Topics will cover everything from S.W.A.T. to K-9 operations in addition. Crime scene investigation and firearms will also be covered.

Applications are now open, with the first day of the course beginning on Wednesday, May 3, at 6 p.m., lasting for about three hours. There is also a possibility of an all-day Saturday. There is no cost to participate in the course. Those interested can sign up on the Park City Police Department Website or call Officer Terry Knetchel at (435) 615-5500.

Trespassing and Intoxication

On March 22, Summit County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint concerning an adult male at the Kimball Junction Transit Center believed to be intoxicated and trespassing. Deputies removed the suspect and cited him for trespassing during the afternoon. Later that day, the suspect returned to the transit center, and deputies returned to the scene. E.M.S. assessed the suspect, and once cleared, the suspect was arrested for intoxication and trespassing. The suspect was transported and booked into Summit County Jail without incident; it was also found that the suspect had an active warrant out of Summit County Justice Court.

Drug Related

A vehicle was stopped by deputies on March 22 for unsafe vehicle/faulty equipment on Highway 224 and Bear Hollow Dr. When the suspect presented their driver’s license and insurance, the smell of marijuana was evident to the deputies. Deputies then search the vehicle, locating 127.9 grams of marijuana in the glove box. The suspect was cited and then released.
