PARK CITY, Utah — One person is in critical condition after a sledding accident early Sunday morning.

The individual had been sledding near Stag Lodge on Last Chance Run at Deer Valley Resort when they collided with a tree. The resort was closed to all snow sports activities when the accident took place.

According to a statement from the Park City Fire District, the PCFD responded to the accident at approximately 12:46 a.m., and firefighters treated the patient before transporting them to Jeremy Ranch. They were then transported to the hospital by AirMed.

“Our thoughts are with the patient’s family and friends,” said Sean Briley, PCFD battalion chief.

According to the resort’s safety policies, sledding is not permitted at Deer Valley at any time of the day or night during the ski season.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with the patient’s family and friends,” said Emily Summers, senior communications manager at Deer Valley Resort. “Thank you to our local emergency responders for their medical care and assistance.”
