Precious Cockatoo's Hesitation to Try New Toy Is the Definition of Sweetness

It doesn't matter what type of animal we're currently talking about: It's pretty universal that our pets are going to love being presented with a new toy. Whether it's a dog who goes to the pet store with you to pick out exactly what they want, or a surprise you bring home with you after running errands, it's pretty much a given that they are going to be absolutely delighted by whatever it is you give them.

Unless, of course, you're the Cockatoo featured in this TikTok video, and in that case, apparently, you're to need some time to get used to the toy your mom just gave you. It's not that he'll never like it, it's just that he's a little suspicious of it...

On Monday, September 16, @furbythebirb shared a video of the moment this bird mom tried to give her precious Cockatoo, Furby, a brand new toy, but at first, he wasn't so sure it was a good idea.

This seems to be a habit of Furby's, so fortunately, his mom wasn't hurt by his lack of excitement. She wrote in the video, "I got Furby a new toy yesterday. Of course, he will be afraid of it for a few days."

She wasn't wrong. Though she presented him with a perfectly harmless, adorable toy — a wooden baby toy, meant for humans but also fun for birds — he was extremely wary of it. So wary, in fact, that he ran away and didn't even seem to want to be near it. It might be an irrational fear, but it's still a fear regardless.

Even the cat who's perched on the couch isn't that bothered by it, and cats can be very fickle creatures. Poor bird!

Sweet Furby. As long as he's not too freaked out, maybe he'll get used to it.

    Furby & His Toys

While Furby is still coming around to his newest toy, the good news is that he does eventually come around.

For example, he seems to really love the Elmo toy featured in this video that was shared on Tuesday, which he's holding in his claws like he's totally comfortable with it. He even appears to be giving it kisses, which I know this bird would not do if he was scared of it.

Elmo seems to be a favorite of his, and it's not just the toys he likes. Here, we can see his mom reading him a baby board book about Elmo, and he's totally into it. He's so much like a human kid!

Here's hoping Furby's mom will update us when he decides he likes his new toy. It does look like a lot of fun.
