The Palm Beach County animal shelter is overcapacity, and more than 300 animals are in need of a 'fur'ever home. To combat the overcrowding, the shelter is offering 50 percent off adoption fees.
The Palm Beach County Department of Public Safety’s Division of Animal Care and Control (PBCACC) needs residents across the county to adopt or foster as the number of pets in its care has risen to over 300.
Staff say they are working overtime to ensure the best quality care, but they do not have enough space. With only 144 kennels and 200 dogs, two dogs are being placed in a single kennel.
The shelter said to encourage adoptions, PBCACC is offering 50 percent off adoption fees. The fees for adult dogs have been reduced from $60 to $30, while the fees for cats and kittens have been reduced from $50 to $25. Many of these lovable pets have been abandoned or surrendered, by adopting with the county shelter, you're giving these animals a second chance at happiness.
For those unable to adopt, fostering is another valuable option, the shelter says. This solution will also help alleviate the overcrowding in kennels. PBCACC provides all necessary supplies, and fostering is free. Those interested in this option can email the shelter.
Adoption Center hours are Monday through Friday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 12 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 12 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shelter says no appointment is necessary, and encourages potential adopters to meet their perfect match in person at 7100 Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach. Pet profiles can be viewed on the shelter's website.
