Following a three-game sweep over reigning Big West Conference champion UC San Diego, the University of Hawaii baseball team kicked off a seven-game, two-week homestand Tuesday night with a dominant 13-1 victory against inter-island rival University of Hawaii at Hilo. The Rainbow Warriors faced the Vulcans for the second time this season, nine weeks after securing a 15-2 victory on the Big Island. Hilo initially took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Trent Jackson’s RBI double. However, the Rainbow Warriors quickly responded, with Sean Rimmer leading the charge. Rimmer hit his third home run of the season—and his second in consecutive games—helping Hawaii take a 3-1 lead and eventually cruising to a comprehensive win. Additionally, UH pitcher Itsuki Takemoto recorded his first at-bats of the season, going 1-for-2 with a single. Takemoto, who entered the program as a two-way player from Japan, had been used exclusively as a pitcher up until Tuesday night.
