Fire District extinguishes early morning Monmouth fire
The Polk County Fire District No. 1 was dispatched to a report of an apartment fire with a possible trapped victim April 19 at 8:07 a.m. According to PCFD, units arrived on the scene at 8:11 a.m. with smoke and flames showing from an upstairs apartment on Clay Street in Monmouth. The apartment occupant met firefighters outside and reported that she had been alone in the apartment with her two dogs, one of which had run out of the apartment with her. Nobody else was inside the apartment.
TLC, a Division of Fibre Federal Credit Union supports animal shelters
TLC, a Division of Fibre Federal Credit Union is helping children save money and save homeless animals with its Cash Club Cares Program. For every new member aged 18 or under who signs up for a Cash Club or Student Savings account, TLC donates five dollars to the Humane Society or animal shelter nearest the location where the account was opened, up to $5,000 total per year. Recently, TLC presented a check for $689 to the Tillamook Animal Shelter. Since the Cash Club Cares Program began in 2017, TLC has donated $33,321 to animal shelters in Tillamook, Lincoln, Clatsop, Columbia, and Cowlitz Counties, including $3,549 to the Tillamook Animal Shelter. TLC plans to continue this partnership with animal shelters and encourage community involvement within its service areas.
ODFW visits Tillamook
Staffers and commissioners from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife gathered in Tillamook on April 18 and 19, for the commission’s regular meeting and to tour project sites across the county. The day-long tour on the 18th had a theme of rising seas and coastal squeeze and focused on ways to address issues caused by climate change in the strip of land between Oregon’s coastal range forests and the ocean. ...
Bridge work underway
Restoration work is underway on the historic Rocky Creek Bridge, also known as the Ben Jones Bridge, located near the north end of Otter Crest Loop. The bridge was built in 1927. According to a project summary on the Oregon Department of Transportation website, “We’re replacing the system that helps prevent the metal from rusting. This is known as cathodic protection. During construction, it’ll look like we’re painting the bridge.” There will be some traffic impacts while work is underway. (Photo by Steve Card)
Adventist Health Tillamook announces surgery suite addition, modernization
Adventist Health Tillamook is preparing for an addition to its surgery suite and modernization of existing facilities, with the $16.8-million project set to begin later this year.
