Hawaiʻi Community College students harvest 50 pounds of bananas to feed local families
About 15 Hawaiʻi Community College students harvested more than 50 pounds of bananas along the Hāmākua Coast to feed the community. On a recent day in April, students chopped down the banana trees and reduced them to mulch, before washing, drying and packing the fruit at the college’s 3-acre farm Mauliola (thriving or healthy), located in Pepe‘ekeo, and then loading it into their van for delivery in Hilo.

(BIVN) – Thirteen top bartenders mixed it up in a head-to-head competition in Waikoloa recently, as part of the Kings’ Shops 2nd Annual Cocktail Contest. Kings’ Shops in Waikoloa Beach Resort welcomed some of Hawaii’s top bartenders on Sunday, April 28, to shake, rattle, and roll out their very best libations for a thirsty crowd. The Second Annual Cocktail Contest was sponsored by Kuleana Rum Works and Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. Thirteen competitors went head to head in a three-round mixology mashup.
Hawaiʻi County Council to consider preserving 27 acres near ʻAnaehoʻomalu Bay
A Hawaiʻi County Council committee has advanced plans to help preserve 27 acres of land on the south end of ʻAnaehoʻomalu Bay near the Waikoloa Beach Resort. The Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions Committee approved a resolution earlier this week to allow the county to enter negotiations for a conservation easement on the parcel.
