Carjackers Caught During Violent Week Of Crime In Prince George's County

On Wednesday, May 31, the department announced that in the past week, investigators from the Carjacking Interdiction Unit (CIU) have busted three adults and two minors following a spate of crime in the region.

On Saturday, May 20, an investigation was launched into a carjacking in the 1400 block of Southview Drive in Oxon Hill, and two days later, the stolen vehicle was spotted in the 800 block of Irvington Street, according to police.

The officers proceeded to stop the stolen vehicle, and Washington, DC residents Jaheim Chase and Adrian Price, both 18, were arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and related offenses.

Also charged in a separate case was 33-year-old Hyattsville resident Tony Budd, who was taken into custody after fleeing from detectives moments after carjacking a vehicle at a cemetery on Bladensburg Road in Brentwood on Sunday, May 21.

Officials noted that he had also unsuccessfully attempted to carjack a second vehicle in the same cemetery that day.

Two 15-year-old suspects, one from DC and one from Forestville, were also arrested during the crime spree.

One of the teens carjacked a man at gunpoint in the 1100 block of Kennebec Street in Oxon Hill, the second stole a vehicle in the 3500 block of 57th Avenue, before taking police on a brief pursuit.

Both teens were arrested in Washington, DC.

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, to date in 2023, 84 suspects have been arrested for carjacking offenses, 51 of which were underage.
