Lafayette Commodores baseball wins against Water Valley & IAHS

Lafayette Commodores (8-5) defeated Water Valley 24-10 on Wednesday night in an offensive game. Lafayette scored 12 runs in the first two innings with nine coming in the second.

Water Valley answered with three runs of their own through the first three innings.

The Commodores had a five-run fourth and and seven-run sixth.

Water Valley had a five-run fifth against Lafayette.

Lafayette had Easton Thompson on the mound for three innings. Blain Bishop, Ian Robinson and Levi Hamm all pitched an inning.

Lafayette was led at the plate by Luke Anderson who went 2-for-4 and scored three runs with five RBIs. Three other Commodores — Caleb Guest, Ian Mayo and Lawson Fortner — each added 3 RBIs to the stat book.

The Commodores were coming off another win on Tuesday night when they won 6 to 4 against Itawamba Agriculture High School.

Itawamba jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage over the Lafayette Commodores after the second inning.

Brody Breithaupt recorded an inning of work on the mound for Lafayette when he allowed four runs on three hits with three walks and a strikeout against IAHS.

Lafayette then turned to Tanner Harris on the bump.

Lafayette was able to keep IAHS scoreless after the second inning.

The Commodores were held off the scoreboard until the sixth inning where they scored two runs.

The Commodores brought Jake Melton to the mound in the sixth. Melton worked an inning and picked up the win. He allowed no runs on one hit with three strikeouts.

Lafayette scored four runs in the seventh to win the game.

The Commodores were led at the plate by Connor Counts who went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Jack Wyatt East finished the game going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Campbell Atkinson drove in a run in the game.

Nick Kagey picked up the save as he gave up a hit and got a strikeout.

Lafayette returns to action on Friday as they play Booneville at 11:30 a.m. and Lauderdale County at 2:30 p.m.
