New visitation facility opening in Lewiston this week
LEWISTON, Maine — A new facility is opening Wednesday in Lewiston. It will offer monitored family visitation for families in Maine with children in state custody. The latest data shows there are more than 2,500 Maine children in DHHS custody, according to the state's child welfare dashboard. While in state custody, visitation appointments are one of the only ways for kids to maintain relationships with their parents and other family members.

Lewiston, Maine Reimagines its 19th-century Mill District as a Destination
In March, the federal government approved a set of appropriation bills with $426 million in infrastructure funding for the state of Maine, including $5 million for a pair of unique riverfront revitalization projects in the city of Lewiston. The funding includes $3.9 million for a pilot project to reimagine the city’s historic canal system as a community asset with adjacent park amenities, as well as $1.1 million to reconstruct Beech Street to improve access to the city’s waterfront park, Simard-Payne Park, and to an adjacent future museum.

Genocide survivors share stories at Bates College
In anticipation of the 30th commemoration of the beginning of one of the darkest chapters in human history–the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda–the Bates College French and Francophone Studies Department presented a transformative conference in Lewiston in March titled “Rwanda 30 Years After: Trauma Healing of Genocide Survivors & Intergenerational Trauma.“ The conference brought together survivors, scholars, and activists, and featured distinguished speakers Esther Mujawayo, Jean Bosco Rutagengwa, and Chantal Kayitesi, who shared their own harrowing experiences and insights as survivors of the genocide, shedding light on its enduring impact.
Colby Handles Bates to Secure #1 Seed Heading into Playoffs
