Police in Worcester County warned drivers Tuesday morning, March 21, that a fire at a lawn-seeding business could cause traffic problems in portions of Auburn and Oxford, officials said.
Crews responded to 157 Southbridge Street after a blaze broke out at the Hydro Grass warehouse, fire departments said. Oxford firefighters called for a second alarm just after 10 a.m. as fire licked the outside of the 40-by-60-foot garage that was filled with hazardous chemicals.
Firefighters worked quickly and put the blaze out around 11 a.m. Auburn police told drivers to avoid the area near the town border because traffic would be congested.
Auburn police were rerouting drivers on Route 20 west to Route 12 south to avoid traffic delays and allow emergency crews better access to the area.
