Hagerty sophomore paces softball all-area team as player of year

The Orlando Sentinel Varsity softball All-Area team is made up of players from FHSAA state series schools in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and southwest Volusia counties.

Selections are made by the Orlando Sentinel with input from area coaches. Team success, strength of schedule and other recognition is considered during the selection process.

Player of the Year

Ana Roman, Hagerty, So.

Buzz: Seminole Athletic Conference player of the year hit 16 home runs, good for second-most in the state according to MaxPreps. The centerfielder committed just 1 error in 32 chances while leading Hagerty to a 19-8 record and Class 6A regional final appearance. Roman batted .408 (31-for-76) with 35 runs scored, 32 RBI, 5 doubles, 18 walks and 10 stolen bases vs. one of the area’s toughest strength of schedules.

All-Area First Team

Angelee Bueno, Oviedo, Sr.

Buzz: First baseman was perfect in the field for district champs while batting .438 (28-for-64) with 30 RBI, 8 home runs, 8 doubles, 2 triples and 27 runs scored.

Emilie Ching, Windermere High, Jr.

Buzz: Shortstop batted .468 (44-for-94) with 32 RBI, 11 home runs, 7 doubles, 5 triples and 30 runs scored for Class 7A regional finalists.

Morgan Davis, Deltona, Sr.

Buzz: Led Class 5A state runner-up with a .468 batting average (44-for-94), 32 RBI and 13 doubles. Also scored 20 runs and committed no errors as starting catcher.

Aracelis Jimenez, Montverde Academy, Jr.

Buzz: Outfielder set school record with 38 stolen bases for Class 3A state semifinalists. Jimenez batted .589 (56-for-95) with 24 RBI, 30 runs scored and 8 extra-base hits.

Lauren “Libby” Levendoski, Eustis, Sr.

Buzz: Tossed 4 no-hitters for Panthers and held opponents to a .084 batting average. Levendoski finished with a 0.51 ERA and 255 strikeouts in 137.2 innings pitched.

Katie McCaw, Deltona, Sr.

Buzz: Struck out 213 batters in 156 innings pitched while finishing with a 1.26 ERA and .149 batting average against. State runner-up Wolves turned in a 22-5 record.

Gabriella Mike, Lake Brantley, Jr.

Buzz: Carried a 1.16 ERA and .162 batting average against with 141 strikeouts in 96.2 innings for 7A state semifinalists. Also had 12 RBI, 8 doubles and 8 stolen bases on 17 hits.

Olivia Miller, Bishop Moore, Sr.

Buzz: Two-way standout batted .442 (34-for-77) with 39 RBI and 16 extra-base hits. Also tallied 261 strikeouts in 155 innings for a 1.17 ERA and .143 batting average against.

Kiley Strott, Lake Brantley, Sr.

Buzz: Led offense in multiple categories while batting .368 (32-for-87) with 22 RBI, 9 doubles and 5 home runs. Had just 1 error in 272 chances at catcher.

Luna Taboas, Montverde Academy, Fr.

Buzz: Batted .549 (50-for-91) with 9 extra-base hits and 40 runs scored as leadoff hitter for state semifinalists. The shortstop stole 26 bases and struck out just once.
