Woman Arrested for Neglect and Arson After Child Trapped in Burning Car

Seminole County, FL - A woman has been arrested on child neglect charges after her car caught fire at the Oviedo Mall while a child was inside.

Seminole County Police arrested 24-year-old Alicia Moore following the incident that occurred on May 26th, when Moore parked her vehicle in the parking lot of the Dillard's store at the Oviedo Mall.

Authorities say Moore left the child unattended inside the car and entered the store, where security personnel noticed her engaging in shoplifting activities with a male companion.

As Moore attempted to leave the store with the stolen merchandise, she discovered that her car was engulfed in flames.

Witnesses at the mall noticed the fire and aided those trapped inside.

The injured child was transported to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital for medical treatment.

While the cause of the fire remains uncertain, investigators say that if Moore had not been negligent, the child would not have been harmed.

Police took Moore into custody on charges of child neglect with great bodily harm and first-degree arson.

Her bond has been set at $40,000.
