Skijoring to hit Denver’s National Western Stock Show for first time
By Spencer McKee,
18 hours agoSkiers and cowboys are set to collide at Denver’s National Western Stock Show in January, with organizers announcing that skijoring will take place at the event for the first time ever.
A sport that consists of horses pulling skiers through a snowy course, skijoring has long taken the center stage at mountain town events around Colorado, and now it will be headed to Denver.
The special skijoring event will take place on January 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with skijoring viewing included with a Grounds Admission ticket. The event will take place in front of The Legacy.
Per a report on the announcement from 9NEWS, 50 teams are expected to participate, with participants traveling through gates, jumps, and other obstacles.
“Watch as horse-and-rider teams pull skiers through a course filled with speed, skill, and competition, combining the power of the horse with the athleticism of the skier,” says the National Western Stock Show about the event. “With horses thundering down the course and skiers navigating the action behind them, this is a unique opportunity to experience one of the West’s most exciting winter sports in a whole new setting.”
The National Western Stock Show can draw more than 700,000 visitors during a good year, with the 2027 event stretching from January 9 to January 24. Grounds Admission tickets for January 18 were priced at $31 for adults and $10 for children ages three to 11 at time of reporting.
