In April 2021, Kevin Johnson, a candidate for the Oswego 308 Board of Education, pleaded guilty to a charge of misdemeanor domestic battery stemming from a September 2019 incident at his residence in Oswego.

According to an Oswego Police Department report obtained by WSPY News through a Freedom of Information Act request, Oswego Police were called to the residence and an observer reported that Johnson and the victim had been involved in an argument, and that Johnson had shoved the victim against mirrored closet doors, which shattered. The report also states that individuals at the scene alleged that Johnson was intoxicated. Johnson left the scene before police arrived and later refused to speak to police when contacted by phone by the Oswego Police department.

In October 2019, after an investigation by Oswego Police, an arrest warrant was issued for Kevin Johnson. On October 28, 2019, Johnson was arrested and booked at the Kendall County Jail on a charge of domestic battery.

Two misdemeanor criminal charges were filed against Johnson as a result of the incident. One charge was dropped as part of a plea agreement between Johnson and the Kendall County State's Attorney's Office. Johnson pleaded guilty in April 2021 to having knowingly caused bodily harm to the victim by pushing the victim against several doors, causing cuts on the victim's shoulder, arms, and legs.

Kendall County Court records show that Johnson was sentenced to a year of probation and was required to complete a domestic violence counseling program. Court records also show that Johnson completed the sentence and was discharged from probation on March 15, 2022.

WSPY News contacted Johnson for comment, but he made no comment.
