5 June 2023 News

Oshkosh Police and Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials had to use armored vehicles to respond to a residence in Oshkosh where a 35-year-old man with a gun was threatening people. It happened in the 1100 block of South Main Street just after midnight Monday morning. Police learned the man had pointed a handgun at people inside the residence and was threatening to shoot them. When police arrived they rescued two children from a second story balcony. Several people also escaped from the residence. The man was still inside with 1-and 2-year-old children. SWAT and Negotiation teams and a Drone Team responded to the scene. The State Patrol, Omro, and UW-Oshkosh Police also responded. The armored vehicles and a robot were also brought in. SWAT officers entered the home and found the 2-year-old child who was safely removed from the residence. SWAT Officers continued their search and found the man under blankets, lying on his stomach on an inflatable mattress. Under him was the loaded handgun. The 1-year-old child was found unharmed. The man was taken into custody. He was wanted on an outstanding warrant through Probation and Parole; charges stemming from the incident are pending.
