Celebrate spring with sushi and sweet treats

Happy Thursday, Streetwise readers. I have quite a bit of good news this week.

First, all-you-can eat sushi and hibachi restaurant Sushi Lover celebrated its grand opening last Sunday at its new Oshkosh location, 2605 Jackson St., and much like its Appleton and Green Bay locations, has a city-specific sushi roll, as well as a Mexican roll, mango ingredients and fried udon unique to this location. Katy Macek has all the details.

Another opening is Sweet Jules Bakes, which gained popularity at local farmers markets, as owner Jules Kupsky moved from a shared kitchen to her own storefront at 9 Church Ave. — the former Hot Dog Charlie's, which closed last September after owner Charlie Nichols retired.

Kupsky makes everything from scratch with locally sourced ingredients and offers treats like cupcakes, scones, muffins and biscotti. A crowd favorite so far, however, are the "ultimate cakes," which layer a cake and cheesecake into one creation. These can be custom-ordered whole, but are also available by the slice in a "flavor of the week."

Nearby, my coworker Rebecca Loroff reported on Natural Boutique reopening in Neenah after a brief remodel, and Jelissa Burns has the story on Menasha automotive shop Coonen's Complete Service undergoing new ownership after being kept in the family for almost 95 years.

Finally, continuing with our Women's History Month coverage, I put together a roundup of women-owned businesses across Fond du Lac to check out if you plan on visiting the city anytime soon.

Out of nearly 90 estimated women-owned businesses (according to Census data from 2017), my list has surpassed 30 businesses, from clothing boutiques and hair salons to photography studios and cafes.
