Nez Perce Tribal Police Assist With Investigation of Shooting in Orofino

LAPWAI, ID – One person suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during an altercation between two people in Orofino yesterday. According to a press release from the Nez Perce Tribe, officials from the Nez Perce Tribal Police, Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office, and Orofino Police Department participated in the investigation.

“After the Nez Perce Tribal Police Department conducted an authorized search of the incident location pursuant to a search warrant, one individual was taken into custody. The individual injured is having their wounds treated at a nearby hospital and is expected to fully recover,” the press release says. “The Nez Perce Tribal Police Department are working closely with Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office, Orofino Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in investigating this matter.”

The Nez Perce Tribal Police Department reports that there is no danger to the community and “will continue to work cooperatively with the involved agencies. This is an ongoing investigation and further details on the case will be made public when appropriate to protect the integrity of the case.”
