ORLANDO, Fla. — Wednesday's Orlando Pride game against NJ/NY Gotham FC has been put off because of poor air quality conditions in the New York metropolitan area, the National Women's Soccer League announced.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires has been pouring into the northeastern United States, leaving an unhealthy haze.

"The safety of our players, officials and fans is our top priority," NWSL said in a statement announcing the postponement. "Following consultation with the NWSL Medical and Operations staff, it was determined that the match could not be safely conducted based on the projected air quality index."

The rescheduled match is set for 7:30 p.m Eastern Time on Aug. 9.

The Pride have lost their past two matches after going four matches unbeaten in regular-season play through the month of May. Gotham has a draw and a loss in their past two contests.
