He says it's nothing inappropriate."It's just donuts y'all. It's just donuts,” DeShazo said. "It's an after-school club. They can invite a sportsperson to come in and speak to a sports team. Ron DeSantis proposed expanding Florida's so-called "Don't Say Gay" law to include high school."It makes me laugh that people truly believe I have that much power. This was 100 percent a parental movement. I was contacted by a multitude of parents last night,” Ferrant said.Ferrant says the state Department of Education did contact her to let her know how leaders felt and stood. She also says she expressed her concerns to the principal about the same speaker last year. The principal apologized for any inconvenience or consternation this has caused. And DeShazo released a statement as Momma Ashley Rose after the event was canceled.“This is clearly an attack on the LGBTQ+ community and harmful to our queer youth and their families. Moreover, the hate and violent rhetoric directed toward me and my organization, as well as the educators and staff at Boone High School, are completely unacceptable and shouldn’t be rewarded. This is a very dangerous path we are heading down, and we should all be concerned about the threat to our rights and those of our most vulnerable family, friends, and neighbors," Momma Ashley Rose said. "At the end of the day, I find it very hard to believe that the greatest threat to our children in school is a drag queen spreading the message that you’re loved, accepted, and wanted no matter who you are.”Top stories:Deadly fungal infection already detected in Florida, spreading at alarming rate, CDC saysPublic health officials warn 'zombie drug' xylazine is circulating in Central FloridaCitizens Property Insurance to eventually require all customers carry flood insurance
