Clay Martineau is a hard to guy to miss, tall and fairly mobile for an inside linebacker. Yet that seemed to be the case until he showed up last weekend at the Northwest Showcase recruiting event held at Western Oregon University.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound defender from Oregon City High School in the town of the same name and the class of 2024 caught the eye of University of Washington co-defensive coordinator William Inge and went home with a Husky scholarship offer.

Martineau now holds nine offers as his list of suitors begins to expand and look a lot more impressive, with BYU, Washington State, Boise State, Air Force, Colorado State, Idaho, Mercer and Portland State.

"[Inge} said he was impressed," Martineau told Dawgman.com. "He liked how I moved, was super impressed with how I played, how I acted, my competitiveness and my motor throughout the whole camp."

For a 5-6 Oregon City team, Martineau finished his junior season with 73 tackles, 5 sacks, 2 interceptions and a forced fumble. Further demonstrating his athletic ability, he caught 39 passes for 509 yards and 4 scores, while running for a touchdown.

Oregon City is south of Portland yet north of the Salem area, where the Northwest Showcase was conducted.

The only real question is when or will Oregon and Oregon State show an interest in this lanky linebacker in their football backyard?
