Impressive plays by Terrel Bernard, Kyle Allen highlight Tuesday's OTAs session

2023-05-30Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - Watching a quarterback named Allen sling the ball to different receivers at Organized Team Activities (OTAs) has become common-place over the last several years in Orchard Park.
That was the case again on Tuesday, but this time, it was backup signal-caller Kyle Allen who made several terrific throws during the 11-on-11 portion of the session.
Under a hazy, hot 80-degree sun just outside the ADPRO Sports Training Center on Tuesday, Allen had back-to-back throws on the money, even while his wideouts were covered tightly.
The first was to wide receiver Dezmon Patmon in the corner of the end zone, just before he was going out of bounds. Patmon made a great over-the-shoulder catch with Allen dropping it in the bucket over the head of second-year cornerback Kaiir Elam.
Then it was wideout Isaiah Coulter making the grab, just beyond the reach of cornerback Jared Mayden. It was another dime from Allen.
Not to be outdone, the starting quarterback with the same last name, Josh Allen, came right back with, what appeared to be, a perfectly placed ball of his own to second-year wide receiver Khalil Shakir.
However, second-year cornerback Christian Benford made a great play to not only get his hands on it, but bring it down for a possible interception, creating a tug-of-war for the ball between Benford and Shakir. Players from both the offense and defense debated who came up with the football.
Prior to all of that, there was no debating a really nice, athletic interception by linebacker Terrel Bernard, who was moving right, but had to reach back left to snag a ball that was thrown by quarterback Matt Barkley.
It was all part of the first of three OTA sessions this week, and the fourth of nine overall. The team will be back on the field this Wednesday and Thursday this week, then three more days next week before the mandatory three-day minicamp June 13-15.
Until then, all of these OTAs are voluntary. Players are not required to attend.
Seven players weren’t spotted at all on Tuesday, while another five players were present but did not fully participate.
