Trash truck in flames on Daniel Shays Highway in Orange

ORANGE, Mass. (WWLP) – While driving along Daniel Shays Highway, Orange Fire Chief James Young stopped a trash truck that appeared to be smoking.

Orange Fire Rescue reports Chief Young reversed direction and notified the station of his location at about 3:49 p.m. In an attempt to stop the truck, he activated his emergency lights. Chief Young observed the fire growing from the rear compactor area of the trash hauler after the truck was pulled over. 

Chief Young used his vehicle extinguisher to contain the fire until the rest of the crew arrived. Upon arrival, crews completely put out the fire. 

According to Orange Fire, the fire was contained in the truck’s compactor area. There were no injuries reported.
