FHP charges man with DUI in accident causing serious injuries to Orange City motorcyclist

A 23-year-old Keystone Heights man was arrested for driving under the influence in an accident causing serious injuries to a 77-year-old motorcyclist from Orange City on Sunday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Both vehicles were traveling westbound on State Road 100 in Putnam County approaching State Road 26. The Keystone Heights man was behind the motorcyclist, which began slowing and changing lanes to enter the left turn lane in order to turn onto westbound State Road 26.

The driver failed to slow down and lost control of his vehicle and rear-ended the motorcycle. The motorcycle "overturned several times" according to FHP.

Both vehicles came to a stop west of the area of the collision. The motorcyclist, who was not identified, was transported in serious condition to University of Florida Health Gainesville.

The driver was uninjured and placed under arrest. FHP did not release his identity.
