Elks to host pancake breakfast on Saturday
The Holiday Island Elks Lodge will hold a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25. The breakfast will include pancakes, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy as well as juice and coffee. Adults are $8 and children under 10 are $4.
New Colorado state legislation to protect wetlands
Thousands of acres of wetlands across Colorado could soon be protected again following the passing of recent state legislation with bipartisan support. At least half of Colorado’s wetlands lost federal protections after a 2023 US Supreme Court decision. House Bill 1379, sponsored by House Speaker Julie McCluskie, Rep. Karen McCormick, and Sen. Dylan Roberts, aims to help boost state regulations. Around Telluride, valuable source waters such as fens were left vulnerable, and the new legislation will help protect local watersheds.

Six area graduates earn Chang Chavkin scholarships
The mission of the Chang Chavkin Scholars Program (CC), which operates under the umbrella of the Telluride Foundation, is to support high achieving, first-generation college students from rural areas with funding, resources, and guidance to graduate from a four-year college. Culled from nine regional high schools, students are selected for the program during their junior year, each receiving up to $15,000 per year for four years toward the cost of attending an accredited U.S. college or university.
