The Ontario Fire Department and Ontario police officers responded to a traffic collision around 1 a.m. with a vehicle into an apartment complex in the 1100 block of West Philadelphia Street and South Mountain Avenue.

One person was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. A second person was arrested at the scene. It was unclear at the time which person was the driver.

The resident was home at the time of the crash but was not injured.

Eric, a resident who lives on the other side of the scene of the crash, spoke with Key News Network on camera regarding the incident. He said he had heard a loud bang as he was sitting on his stairs and when he looked over, he saw a lot of smoke coming from the building.

Eric said the whole building shook and at first, he thought it was an earthquake.

Eric then took a walk over to where he saw the smoke coming from and saw the car into the building. He saw the stairs had been knocked down and wondered how his friend, who lives in the impacted building, was going to get down.

The vehicle had crashed into the garage of Eric’s friend, damaging the water heater and truck inside. This was about the fourth time a vehicle has crashed on the street, with one crash involving fatalities, Eric said.

The street is like a race alley with cars speeding all day long. When a local nearby bar empties out around 2 a.m., it becomes a drag strip, according to Eric.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
