Lewis County Officials Holding Community Meeting to Discuss Onalaska’s Future Growth

Staff members from the Lewis County Community Development Department are hosting a community meeting in Onalaska on June 7 to discuss the town’s growth and work on ways to manage and guide future growth, according to a news release from the county.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Onalaska Elementary/Middle School multipurpose room located at 540 Carlisle Ave. All Onalaska community members are invited to attend.

“Communities like Onalaska are experiencing pressure for new subdivisions as the price of housing pushes people away from urban centers to rural communities,” Lewis County Senior Long Range Planner Mindy Brooks said in the release. “It is important for the community to come together and determine the best ways to manage the growth and development as it happens.”

While Onalaska residents have already developed a subarea plan — a roadmap communities can create to guide development over the next 20 years — that plan is now more than five years old and in need of an update, according to the release.

Topics to be addressed during the meeting include land use, housing, transportation, public services and facilities, natural resources and recreation.
