Ryne Lux was on vacation when his dad found a post on social media talking about the "50 Yard Challenge." On that same vacation Lux applied to be a part of it. It's now been two summers of mowing lawns for Lux and he has over 50 under his belt.
The 50 Yard Challenge is a nationwide challenge from Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service. It asks young men to mow 50 lawns for free for the elderly, disabled individuals, single moms and military veterans.
Monday evening the group's founder, Rodney Smith Jr., will travel to Omaha to present Lux with his reward for completing the challenge: a brand new mower, a weed eater and a blower.
"I like to just get out in the air, breathe the fresh air and reflect on the things you've done in life and think," Lux said.
One of the lawns Lux has been mowing is his great uncle's who was doing it on his own when his grandsons weren't available. Then Lux came knocking.
"At that time I had just had a hip replacement so this worked out perfectly," Lux's great uncle Stephen O'Donnell said.
Lux said he has no plans to stop mowing, in fact, he plans on taking his equipment to ramp up his mowing and hopefully make some money.
When asked if he would recommend the challenge to others Lux gave a very simple: "yes."
