WELL, CHANGE IS NEEDED, AND THAT’S ONE TAKEAWAY FROM A SURVEY OUT TONIGHT. IT WAS COMMISSIONED BY THE OMAHA PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT. AS THEY START THEIR SEARCH FOR A NEW SUPERINTENDENT. BILL SHERMAN HAS A STORY FROM THE LIVE DESK. YEAH, GUYS, 57% OF THOSE ASKED IN A NEW SURVEY SAY THE OMAHA PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD SHOULD FIND A SUPERINTENDENT READY TO TAKE THE DISTRICT IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION. 34% WANT SOMEONE WHO CAN MAKE CHANGES BUT MAINTAIN THE SAME BASIC MANAGEMENT PHILOSOPHY AS IS DR. CHERYL LOGAN. AS YOU KNOW, LOGAN HAS RESIGNED AS SUPERINTENDENT. SHE’LL LEAVE AT THE END OF JUNE AFTER FIVE YEARS WITH OMAHA PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THE STUDY, CONDUCTED BY THE FIRM RECRUITING WILL BE REVIEWED BY THE BOARD WHEN IT MEETS TONIGHT. OF THOSE WHO RESPONDED, 66% SAY STAFF RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION IS THE MOST CRITICAL ISSUE FACING THE NEW SUPERINTENDENT. THAT’S FOLLOWED BY ACADEMIC OUTCOMES MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES, TEACHER QUALITY, SPECIAL EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY. LOCATION. 91% OF THOSE WHO RESPONDED SAY IT’S IMPORTANT OR VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE BOARD TO PRIORITIZE THE SUPERINTENDENT CANDIDATES KNOWLEDGE OF PUBLIC EDUCATION, FINANCE. 89% SAY THE CANDIDATE SHOULD UNDERSTAND THE DISTRICT’S CULTURE AND DYNAMICS, AND 84% OF THOSE ASKED SAY IT’S IMPORTANT OR VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE NEXT SUPERINTENDENT BE CULTURALLY, CULTURALLY COMPETENT AND AWARE OF EQUITY AND INCLUSION. DISAPPOINTED AND FRUSTRATED WERE THE MOST COMMON WORDS USED TO DESCRIBE OMAHA PUBLIC SCHOOLS BY THOSE WHO RESPONDED. IN OTHER TOP WORDS, HOPEFUL, PROUD AND CONCERNED. THIS STUDY WAS NOT A RANDOM SAMPLING. IT REFLECTS ONLY THOSE WHO TOOK THE INITIATIVE TO RESPOND. NEARLY SIX AND TEN WERE STAFF MEMBERS, LESS THAN HALF IDENTIFIED AS PARENTS OF CURRENT OR FUTURE STUDENTS. THE BOARD IS MEETING RIGHT NOW
