Salvation Army calling for summer volunteers in Omaha
An effort to feed kids while school is out takes to the streets in the Metro tomorrow. However, the Salvation Army still needs volunteers for their Kids Cruisin' Kitchen this summer.

Margie Smith is eager to hit the road for her sixth summer volunteering in the Kids Cruisin' Kitchen.
"No one should go hungry in Omaha, Nebraska, for gosh sake," said Smith.
The Salvation Army said they need more Margies, with several volunteer slots still unfilled, a day before rolling out the food trucks.
"It’s a fun way for us to meet a very practical need in the lives of our youngest neighbors," said Major Adam Moore, the Omaha city commander with the Salvation Army.
Last year, the Kids Cruisin’ Kitchen served about 10,200 meals. This year, they are expecting a 3-7% increase.
"Our need continues to rise year over year, which is troublesome," said Moore.
The Salvation Army said food insecurity plagues one in six Nebraska school children.
"The idea of feeding hungry kids is wonderful, and I think everyone can get behind that. But it takes the hands and feet of our community to make this happen," said Moore.
Feet on the pedal and hands giving out trays of hot food. Covering six routes, five days a week, said Moore, does take a small army.
"I get goosebumps with every slice that I serve because, you know, that might be their only meal of the day," said Smith. "Four hours is nothing for making a kid's stomach full."
Margie said her heart is full at the end of every shift.
"Take a look at how good you have it, and look at what you're doing for someone that doesn't," said Smith. "Just call me. Call Margie Smith. I'll go with you."
