EBERLY. WE USUALLY SEE PACKAGE DEATHS GO UP DURING THE HOLIDAYS, BUT OUR NEXT STORY SHOWS YOU YOU NEED TO BE ON GUARD YEAR ROUND. AND OMAHA WOMAN’S RING CAMERA IS ROLLING AS IT WEEPS. SWIPES FOR PACKAGES FROM HER PORCH AND HE TAKES A CHUNK OUT OF HER BUSINESS IN THE PROCESS. NEAR 30TH IN WILTON, VANESSA PAPPAS SAYS THAT’S JUST ONE WHY REALLY SOMEONE STOLE MY PACKAGES OUT OF FOUR PACKAGES. THIS PERSON TOOK FROM HER HOMES DOORSTEPS. I CHECKED MY CAMERA FOOTAGE BECAUSE I HAVE CAMERAS ON MY WHOLE HOUSE AND I SAW THAT SOMEONE RAN UP AND TOOK THEM. I WAS LIKE REALLY SHOCKED AND SURPRISED. SHE HOPED TO PREVENT SOMETHING LIKE THIS FROM HAPPENING, WHICH IS WHY YOU SEE A PACKAGE SAFE OUTSIDE OF HER HOME. BUT SHE SAYS THE POSTMAN AND DELIVERY DRIVERS CAN NEVER FIGURE OUT HOW TO OPEN IN THE SAFE. SO SHE LEAVES PACKAGES SHE WANTS TO SEND OUT BY HER FRONT DOOR, THE POSTAL SERVICE. THEY HAVE AN OPTION WHERE YOU CAN GO ONLINE AND YOU CAN REQUEST A PACKAGE PICKUP. AND SO THIS WAY I DON’T HAVE TO DRIVE EVERY DAY AT THE POST OFFICE. THE POSTAL GUY COMES HERE AND PICKS THEM UP. SHE SAYS SHE RESELLS CLOTHES AND SHOES ON EBAY. I SELL ON EBAY TO HELP MAKE EXTRA INCOME FOR MY FAMILY. AND WHAT THE ALLEGED THIEF STOLE WERE WOMEN’S SHOES SHE WAS DELIVERING TO CUSTOMERS. $200 IN PROFIT TODAY THAT I LOST, BUT I HAD TO REFUND. SHE SAYS THE POLICE ARE INVOLVED AND SHE HOPES THEY CAN FIND THIS PERSON. AND I HOPE THAT PEOPLE ARE MORE AWARE TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT LEAVING PACKAGES ON YOUR PORCH THAT YOU NEED TO HAVE ANOTHER SAFETY MECHANISM FOR YOUR PACKAGES. Usually, you hear reports of package thefts a lot around the holidays. But one Omaha woman fell victim in the month of March.Vanessa Papesh's Ring camera was rolling as a thief took four packages from her porch. And it's affecting her home business near 30th and Poppleton.When it happened, Papesh says she thought: "What? Really, someone stole my packages?""I checked my camera footage because I have cameras around my whole house, and I saw that someone ran up at took them," Papesh said. "I was like, really shocked and surprised."She hoped to prevent something like that from happening which is why there's a package safe outside of her home. But she said the postman and delivery drivers can never figure out how to open the safe. So, she leaves packages she wants to send out by her front door."The postal service, they have an option where you can go online and you can request a package pick up. And so this way, I don't have to drive every day to the post office. The post guy comes here and picks them up," Papesh said.Papesh said she re-sells clothes and shoes on eBay."I sell on eBay to help make extra income for my family," she said. Papesh said the thief stole women's shoes she was delivering to customers."(A total of) $200 in profit today that I lost that I had to refund," she said.She said the police are involved and she hopes they can find the person who took the packages."And I hope that people are more aware to be careful about leaving packages on your porch. That you need to have another safety mechanism for your packages," Papesh said.From now on, she says she'll send out deliveries the old-fashioned way: by taking them straight to the post office.
