When Ty Rule woke up Saturday, he saw his friend, Gary Mangiameli was killed in a motorcycle crash early that morning near 26th and 'L'.
"Gary was a great dad. Good dad, good guy. I mean everybody loved Gary," Rule said.
About 30 minutes later and on his way to mourn his fellow biker with friends, he got a call.
"I was on my way to that and then my sister calls me. She's like, 'Ty, Ronnie's at the hospital. They just took him to the hospital. He got in a motorcycle accident. He's at Bergen," he said.
He's talking about his brother, Ronnie Miller, who was badly hurt in a motorcycle crash at the I-80 exit to 72nd.
"Just a lot of trauma to his body. Broken femur, broken pelvis, two broken wrists, his ribs were just shattered," he said.
Rule says a nurse at Bergen Mercy Hospital told him what happened.
"But she does remember the officer saying he was on the interstate right up here by 72nd and he was hit by a car and he crashed his motorcycle," he said.
Omaha police have not provided any information on the crash and Rule wants answers.
"That's the thing... we don't know nothing! We're all sitting around hypothetically like this might have happened or I don't know," he said.
And as he worries about his brother, he mourns his friend.
"It's just, man, it's been a tough weekend," Rule said. "If he gets through this he's got a long road, man."
Rule says doctors say the only reason his brother survived the crash is because he was wearing a helmet.
Rule says spring and summer are bike season. He urges drivers to check their blind spots for bikers.
