CARE TO SOUTH OMAHA. WELL, TODAY, KIDS CAN CELEBRATED THE OPENING OF THEIR NEW COMMUNITY CENTER. IT SITS AT THE CORNER OF 48TH AND KEW. AND THE CENTER DOUBLES. KIDS CAN SQUARE FOOTAGE AND INCREASE CAPACITY TO NOW SERVE MORE THAN 240 CHILDREN. KETV NEWSWATCH 7 KYLE LARSON WAS THERE FOR THE RIBBON CUTTING AND HAS A LOOK AT HOW IT’S HELPING KIDS GET A SUCCESSFUL START. 115 YEARS IN THE COMMUNITY, THE CEO OF KIDS CAN APPRAISES THE FAMILIES WHO MAKE THIS PLACE RUN. AS THE ORGANIZATION MOVES INTO A NEW SPACE, ONE, TWO, THREE, A NEW LARGER FACILITY OFFICIALLY OPENS IN SOUTH OMAHA, BRINGING MORE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES TO THE METRO. THERE ARE MANY KIDS OUT THERE THAT ARE IN NEED OF CHILD CARE AND QUALITY CHILD CARE, AND ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION. SO IT’S ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT, YOU KNOW, WE’RE JUST GOING TO FEEL LIKE WE’RE DOING OUR PART TO BE ABLE TO EXPAND. BUT THERE’S SO MUCH MORE NEED OUT THERE THAT WE NEED TO BE WORKING AS A STATE TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS. ROBERT PATTERSON IS THE CEO OF KIDS CAN. HE SAYS A NEW BUILDING DOESN’T HAPPEN WITHOUT GREAT PEOPLE. PEOPLE LIKE JOHN WILLIS WILLIS ATTENDED KIDS CAN AS A CHILD. NOW HER OWN CHILDREN ATTEND. I LOVE CONTINUING TO BE A PART OF THIS COMMUNITY. WILLIS KNOWS HOW CRUCIAL EARLY EDUCATION IS. SHE SPOKE TO A CROWD MONDAY MORNING. PRAISE ING THE NEW SPACE FOR WHAT IT NOW OFFERS. IT’S GREAT BECAUSE IT IT GIVES US MORE SPACE FROM AROUND IT. WE LOVE THAT. IT’S LIKE DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR WHAT IT IS DOING NOW, WHICH IS SERVING THE EARLY CHILDHOOD KIDS AND THEN OUT OF SCHOOL KIDS. STATE SENATOR TONY VARGAS WAS AT THE GROUNDBREAKING OF THE 26,000 SQUARE FOOT COMMUNITY CENTER MONDAY. HE SHOWED UP TO CONTINUE HIS SUPPORT. THIS IS AMAZING THAT WE HAVE A NEW FACILITY THAT IS GOING TO INVEST IN SOUTH OMAHA, THAT’S GOING TO INVEST IN EARLY EDUCATION, EARLY CHILDHOOD. VARGAS SAYS THERE MUST BE MORE PLACES THAT FOCUS ON CHILDREN. IT’S CRITICAL. WE NEED MORE AND MORE ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE INVESTING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD. Kids Can held a ribbon cutting Monday morning to mark the opening of its new Kids Can Community Center.The center is located at 4768 Q St. in Omaha, with over 26,000 square feet and an increased capacity of 237 children."It's important to me to stay in South Omaha," Kids Can CEO Robert Patterson said. "Serve those kids and the neighbor kids around us but also make a nice space for them."The facility has two infant rooms, four toddler classrooms, three out-of-school classrooms, including a STEM room and a full-court gym, among other features.State Senator Tony Vargas attended the ribbon cutting and said having organizations invest in South Omaha is critical to the area's success.Vargas praised Kids Can for bringing more accessible childcare to the area."We need more organizations that invest in early childhood," Vargas said.
