"Absolutely soul-crushing."
"A devastating way to end."
"We couldn't buy a bucket."
Hundreds of Bluejay basketball fans packed DJ's Dugout in downtown Omaha Sunday to watch the Jays take on the San Diego State Aztecs in the Elite Eight.
Creighton lost in the final minute of the game, breaking Bluejay fans' hearts.
The final score was shrouded by a controversial call. Some fans said it was bigger than one moment.
"SDSU's game went up and ours plummeted after half. You can't just blame it on that one call," said Creighton student Devon Stoffen.
"The second half they couldn't get scoring. You know what I'm saying. They were anemic for a bit. Couldn't buy a bucket at that point," one man said.
Fans, still proud of the team's season.
"The fact that this year is like the second time in like since the NCAA tournament expanded, making to the sweet sixteen is like ridiculous," Stoffen said.
"They were doing well. It was a good game. It was a good game. Proud of the boys," one man said.
And all eyes turn to the next season.
"I think like especially after making it this far like everyone has just that much more faith in them for next year and the years coming," said Creighton student Anna Mahoney. "So we'll see what happens."
