WELL, THE FIRST ONE HAPPENED NEAR 26TH AND ALVA OMAHA POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THAT 76 YEAR OLD JOHN GOMEZ OF OMAHA WAS TRYING TO CROSS L STREET THIS WAS JUST AFTER 11 LAST NIGHT. THERE’S NO MARKED CROSSWALK THERE. HE WAS HIT BY THE DRIVER OF A HONDA CIVIC WHO WAS TRAVELING WESTBOUND ON ELM STREET. GOMEZ WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD. OFFICERS IDENTIFIED THE DRIVER, A 22 YEAR OLD NAMED JAMIE GARCIA QUERE. AND THEN AROUND TO THIS MORNING, A MOTORIST CYCLIST WAS HIT POSSIBLY BY A DRUNK DRIVER. POLICE SAY A 45 YEAR OLD GARY MANJIMUP WAS HEADING WEST ON EL NEAR 32ND WHEN THE DRIVER OF A SILVERADO TRIED TO GET ONTO HIGHWAY 75 AND HIT HIM. The Omaha Police Department confirms a motorcyclist died after he was struck by a truck.The motorcyclist, 45-year-old Gary Mangiameli, was wearing an NDOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash.Officers say it happened around 2:20 a.m. Saturday near 26th and L streets.The motorcyclist was westbound on L Street when a Chevy Silverado turned onto the HWY 75 ramp and struck the motorcycle.The driver of the truck, 38-year-old Lorena Lara Diaz of Marshall, Missouri, was arrested for failure to yield the right of way, refusal of a preliminary breath test, refusal of a DUI test, DUI, and motor vehicle homicide.
