Creighton campus buzzes as students await men's Sweet 16 matchup
OUT PAYBACK IS A DISH BEST SERVED SWEET IN A REMATCH FROM THE 2014 NCAA TOURNAMENT, CREIGHTON FLIPPED THE SCRIPT AGAINST BAYLOR, TAKING DOWN THE BEARS TO PUNCH THEIR TICKET TO THEIR SECOND SWEET 16 IN THREE SEASONS. IT’S A SPECIAL MAN, YOU KNOW, LIKE COACH SAID AFTER OUR LAST WIN, YOU KNOW, WE’VE BEEN WORKING AT THIS SINCE JUNE. AND, YOU KNOW, FOR IT TO HAVE THE FRUIT COME TO LIFE NOW, IT’S SPECIAL. AND, YOU KNOW, WE’RE EXCITED TO, YOU KNOW, KEEP MOVING ON. IT’S A SPECIAL GROUP AND IT’S, YOU KNOW, THE ADVERSITY THAT THIS TEAM HAD TO GO THROUGH, MAKE SOME REALLY UNIQUE. I DON’T KNOW THAT THERE’S MANY TEAMS THAT HAVE LOST SIX IN A ROW AND THEN ENDED UP IN THE SWEET 16. IT’S LIKE YOU MAKE IT ONE TIME AND YOU DON’T KNOW IF YOU EVER BE ABLE TO MAKE IT BACK. YOU WORK TOWARD IT AND ALL THAT, BUT THEN WHEN YOU GET TO COME BACK, YOU JUST REALIZE I LOOK, YOU ARE AND HOW ARE YOU? GOT TO TAKE IT ALL IN. SO I’M JUST TRYING TO TAKE IT ALL IN AND ENJOY IT. THIS GAME WAS ALL ABOUT GUARD PLAY AND NO GUARDS SHINED BRIGHTER THAN RYAN NEMAHA, THE BLUE JAYS SOPHOMORE WAS OUT INJURED LAST YEAR IN THE ROUND OF 32, BUT HE MADE THE MOST OF HIS OPPORTUNITY AGAINST THE BEARS, POURING IN A CAREER HIGH 30 POINTS. I DEFINITELY PUT IN A LOT OF WORK. I PUT IN MY WORK TO TO PREPARE FOR MOMENTS LIKE THIS AND OPPORTUNITIES LIKE THIS. SO I’M ALWAYS PREPARED FOR IT FOR A NIGHT LIKE THAT, FOR SURE. HE’S BEEN TERRIFIC. AND AFTER WHAT HE WENT THROUGH LAST YEAR AND THE WAY HE ATTACKED HIS REHAB TO GET BACK ON THE FLOOR AFTER A PRETTY SERIOUS WRIST INJURY, I’M REALLY PROUD TO SEE HIM SITTING OVER THERE ENJOYING THIS TIME. THE BLUE JAYS ALSO GOT A BIG BOOST OFF THEIR BENCH FROM FRANCISCO FERREIRA BELLO. THE TCU TRANSFER CAME IN THE GAME AND AFFECTED IT ON BOTH ENDS, HITTING THREE THREES ON THE OFFENSIVE END AND THEN PLAYING SOLID DEFENSE ON BAYLOR’S GUARDS ON THE OTHER. MY TEAMMATES NEVER, NEVER DOUBTED ME. MY COACHING STAFF NEVER DOUBTED ME. COACH MAC ALWAYS TEXTED ME LIKE, YOU GOT TO KEEP SHOOTING, YOU GOT TO KEEP SHOOTING. THEY’RE GOING TO COME. THEY’RE GOING TO HIT SOME BIG ONES FOR US. SO, YEAH, I MEAN, I’M GLAD THIS WAS A GAME THAT IT HAPPENED. BAYLOR WOULD GET WITHIN FIVE MIDWAY THROUGH THE SECOND HALF AND THEN CREIGHTON SUPER SOPHOMORES TOOK OVER. OUR TWO ARTHUR KALAMA AND TREY ALEXANDER HITTING BIG SHOT AFTER BIG SHOT TO PUSH THE JAYS TO A SWEET 16. ON AND OFF THE COURT. WE’RE ALWAYS TOGETHER. I MEAN, WE JUST WORK HARD TOGETHER AS AS A THREE. WE ALWAYS IN THE GYM. SO JUST FOR US ALL HAD THE SAME GOALS IN MIND FOR US TO BE ABLE TO WORK TOWARDS THAT TOGETHER AND BE SO CLOSE. NOT JUST TEAMMATES, BUT HIS FRIENDS AS WELL IS JUST FUN. TALKING TO THE PLAYERS IN THE LOCKER ROOM. AFTER THE GAME, YOU KIND OF GOT THE SENSE THAT THIS IS JUST ANOTHER STEP ON THEIR JOURNEY, A JOURNEY THAT WILL CONTINUE NEXT WEEKEND IN LOUISVILLE AGAINST PRINCETON IN THE SWEET 16. REPORTING FROM DENVER, COLORADO, AT BALL ARENA, MATT FOSTER KETV NEWSWATCH 7 SPORTS. THANK YOU, MATT. GREAT WORK. HERE’S THE BRACKET IN THE SOUTH REGION. ALABAMA PLAYS SANDY EGGO STATE THAT STARTS AT 530 ON FRIDAY AND THEN CREIGHTON TAKING ON PRINCETON. BOTH GAMES IN LOUISVILLE. CREIGHTON WILL START ABOUT 8:00. IT’S A HALF HOUR AFTER THAT FIRST GAME ENDS WITH ONE OF THESE FOUR TEAMS WIL
