A POSSIBLE INDICTMENT. BACK IN THE METRO THIS AFTERNOON, KIDS FROM AROUND THE AREA FLOCKED TO UNO TO COMPETE IN A REGIONAL SPELLING BEE. THERE’S PLENTY AT STAKE AS THE WINNER GETS A SPOT IN THE PRESTIGIOUS SCRIPPS NATIONAL SPELLING BEE. THE REGIONAL COMPETITION INCLUDES KIDS FROM THE STATE OF NEBRASKA, AS WELL AS PARTS OF IOWA. THE OMAHA SPORTS COMMISSION PUTS ON THE REGIONAL. THEY SAY IT’S A GOOD WAY TO BRING PEOPLE INTO THE METRO. WE BRING IN A LOT OF VISITORS WITH THIS EVENT, A LOT OF THESE KIDS. Saturday in Omaha, kids from around the area flocked to the University of Nebraska-Omaha to compete in a regional spelling bee competition.The winner gets a spot in the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee.Omaha's regional competition included kids from across Nebraska, as well as parts of Iowa. The Omaha Sports Commission puts on the regional — they said it's a good way to bring people to the metro."We bring in a lot of visitors with this event. A lot of these kids, you're hearing that they came from six, seven, eight hours away, and then they're kind of making a weekend of it here," Lindsay Toussant-Brown, executive director for the commission, said.The Scripps National Spelling Bee kicks off May 30 in Washington, D.C.
