Hundreds show up to run in Aksarben Village for annual Shamrock Run/Walk
The seventh annual Shamrock Run/Walk in Aksarben Village looked slightly different Saturday morning. What is usually a 5K was turned into a two-mile race due to a portion of the Keystone Trail being closed.
The race typically averages about 130-140 runners. Saturday's saw slightly fewer due to the cold temperature and wind. Race organizer Kurt Beisch said roughly 100 came out to hit the trail.
"It's fun, and it gets people out to be active," Beisch said when talking about the race's importance. "I guess that's quintessential to being healthy is just to be active."
Jason Thurman showed up Saturday to run the race for the first time.
"It's good to share time with other people who are doing it, nice to meet some new people as well," Thurman said.
Proceeds from the race go to help the CUES Foundation, something Beisch is passionate about.
