Schuemann's seven goals helps Lakeview dominate in first round of lacrosse regionals
BATTLE CREEK - If Monday night was going to be the final time Luke Schuemann was going to play lacrosse on his home field, he wanted to it be something to be remembered. That goal was achieved with a standout individual effort by the Spartan senior. The bigger goal was to help his team advance in the regionals, which also happened as Lakeview extended its season.

BATTLE CREEK — Reintegration to Support and Empower is stepping up when it comes to children's literacy. The nonprofit known as R.I.S.E. is once again administering the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School program this summer in Battle Creek. Rooted in the Mississippi Freedom Summer project of 1964, the six-week literacy program integrates reading, conflict resolution and social action in an activity-based curriculum that promotes social, cultural, and historical awareness.

A Battle Creek man has pleaded no contest in the fatal shooting death of Battle Creek Central graduate and football standout Christopher Williams.
